Evaluation of the short-term effect of physiotherapeutic techniques on spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury
Špačková, Anežka ; Hlinková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Kříž, Jiří (referee)
The subject of this thesis is spasticity in individuals with spinal lesions. The aim is to evaluate and compare a short-term effect of selected physio-therapeutic methods on spasticity of lower limbs in spinal patients. Two methods of comparison were chosen - passive stretching and the Vojta's reflex therapy. The work consists of two parts. The theoretical part describes the problems of spinal lesions, central motoneuron syndrome and spasticity, including its pathophysiology and investigation and therapeutic approaches. The practical part contains an attempt to verify and subsequently compare the immediate antispastic effect of the chosen methods, which is an important prerequisite for the following active exercises as an inseparable part of a physiotherapeutic exercise unit. Clinical evaluation scales are used to evaluate spasticity, namely Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) and Muscle Excitability Scale (MES). The results are then compared with other studies and literature. Keywords spinal lesions, quadriplegia, Modified Ashworth Scale, Muscle Excitability Scale, Vojta's method, stretching

Title: The BanalFatal program in spinal cord injury prevention Objectives: The main objective of this diploma thesis is to examine the subjective impressions of participants after the completion of this program (lesson) so that it is possible to assess the emotional impact of the program and its impact on the further behavior of children. Methods: A quantitative strategy was used for the research part of the thesis. For the purposes of the research, two original questionnaires were created. 6 primary schools were contacted, in which the BanalFatal program previously took place. The questionnaire, aimed at school prevention methodologists, was filled in by all addressed school staff, but only in 4 school facilities, it was possible to interview school pupils. Thus, 6 school prevention methodologists and 164 pupils from 4 selected primary schools (Prague 11, 4, Litoměřice, Dačice) were interviewed. The questionnaire for prevention methodologists contains closed, semi-closed, and open questions. The questionnaire for pupils was created in the form of a survey and contained only closed questions. Results: All school methodologists presume that attending the BanalFatal lecture will have a certain effect on students' change in behavior during risky activities. "Certainly yes" was stated by 1 and "rather...

Author: Bc. Pavlikhina Ekaterina Title: Influence of the posture's change on respiratory function in spinal cord injury patients. Objectives: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze change in respiratory function on change of posture in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Another objective is to compare the respiratory functions in a health subjects and in a SCI patients. Last but not least is an effort to find out whether SCI patients have a pattern of restrictive pulmonary dysfunction. The findings can help understanding development of respiratory complications after spinal cord injury. It may help in choosing optimal position during respiratory examination and respiratory rehabilitation. Methods: In theoretical part, there were explored the available knowledges about respiratory complications and their effects on posture. In practical part, there were 26 subjects - 16 patients with SCI and 10 healthy subjects. Subjects with SCI were divided into two groups - one with paraplegia and other one with quadriplegia. Measurements were performed with spirometer on each subject during supine, sitting and standing postures. There were collected vital capacity (VC), forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in first second (FEV1) data from all subjects. All data were processed in...

Title: Using of SM system for people with spinal cord injury Objectivities: The objective of this work was to choose and modify exercises suitable for people with spinal cord injury and to practice them in the Centrum Paraple. The next goal was to determine if the SM system is eligible as health exercise and compensation of all day sitting for people with spinal cord injury. The other objective was to compare results of people with spinal cord injury with results of healthy group to determine if they react the same or different. Methods: 8 probands, 3 women and 5 men, 5 quadriplegics and 3 paraplegics, with the average age 54, participated in ten 50 minutes lessons. Within the research the data was acquired with opening examination, opening questionnaire, final questionnaire and interview and observation during each lesson. The pain of the musculoskeletal system and its improvement, reactions of probands to SM system and subjective evaluation of muscle involvement while exercising was determined. Also, the control group of healthy woman was established, who completed one questionnaire, witch data was collated with the data of the last questionnaire for probands. Results: We successfully modified exercises of SM system for individuals with spinal cord injury. Each proband adopted the correct form of...

The first theoretical part of the thesis summarizes general findings about spinal cord injury which are followed by characteristics of quadriplegic patients. The expert knowledge of ergonomics and occupational therapy shows their close interconnection linked with the issues of home environment of patients. The theoretical part is concluded by a list of requirements for wheelchair accessibility in home environment in accordance with Decree No. 398/2009 Coll. on general technical requirements to secure barrier-free usage of buildings. Title: The use of full face mask in scuba diving physically handicapped for interruption of the spinal cord. Objectives: The aim is to find out if it is possible to use a full face mask during assisted scuba handicapped with the interruption of the spinal cord and to what extent these masks have a positive impact on the safety of scuba diving with an assistant so affected. Methods: Since that the full face masks are used in that way first, was chosen the method experiment in a protected environment with limited water depth of 4 metres. For finding out of contribution in field security then the method of uncontrolled interviews with experts after the experiment itself and of form the test with physically disabled and experts were detected additional information. Results: Full face masks during assisted scuba handicapped with the interruption of the spinal cord can be advantageously used and in the test group had a significant effect on the safety of scuba diving with an assistant so affected.
